In 2020, the German Tesshinkan community was able to meet in person for the last time in the summer under hygiene measures. Other planned training courses unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the increasing incidence later during that year. Club trainings were also gradually switched completely to online delivery.
When we planned the seminar, guests from Greece, Sri Lanka, Russia, Austria, Great Britain and Japan announced their participation – yet, due to the virus, only guests from Germany could join our seminar. However, 37 participants isn’t that bad under the current circumstances.

Warm temperatures, happy participants, varied training, top trainers and a superb venue – that sums up this year’s Gasshuku essentially.
Our president, Kaichô Tamayose Hidemi, along with his wife Masako-san, his son Tetsushi-San and two grandchildren paid a visit to Nordhausen (GER). Already thirty minutes after his arrival, Sensei stood readily in the Dôjô eager to teach the nearly 60 participants from five nations (Germany, Belarus, Russia, Sri Lanka and Japan).
Okinawa – birthplace of Karatedô and Kobudô – subtropical island with Japanese and Chinese flair and a hue of Hawaii. Whatever aspect means more to one, it is always worth being explored. Under the guidance of Frank Pelny, the technical director of the Ryûkyû Kobudô Tesshinkan Kyô Kai in Germany and Europe, a German group travelled to Okinawa in April 2017 to learn and practice directly at the roots. Our teacher, Tamayose Hidemi, 10th Dan and Hanshi, is the president of the Ryûkyû Kobudô Tesshinkan, vice-president of the Okinawa Ken Kobudô Renmei and a member of the Okinawa Ken Karatedô Renmei. Thus, he is amongst the highest-ranking and well-known teachers in Okinawa.
It is the 10th time now that the Gôjû-Ryû Federation of Tomsk under Vyacheslav Rogozin (4th Dan) hosted a seminar with Frank Pelny Sensei from Germany. An amazing 51 participants from 7 Siberian Dôjô (Kemerova, Anzhero-Sudhensk, Jashkino, Biysk, Tomsk Arsenal, Tomsk Pantera, Krasnoyarsk) gathered there from 7th to 9th October in order to study Ryûkyû Kobudô, Karate and self-defense. Even two TV-stations sent camera crews to broadcast about this event.
From October 1st to 3rd the second Tesshinkan seminar with Frank Pelny, the technical director of the Ryûkyû Kobudô Tesshinkan Kyô Kai Europe, took place in Voronezh. Host Evgenii Kiselev rented some space from the recently-built “Aquamarin” Gazprom Sportcenter and did a wonderful job organizing the seminar.
Every year since 2011 Tamayose Hidemi Hanshi has come to Nordhausen to teach his style of Kobudô. Every year? Almost every year. Last year we were unfortunate and could not visit him in Nordhausen, for he was quite busy organising the 1st Kobudô World Championship on Okinawa. Thus sadly the camp had to be hosted without our Sensei. But that did not hinder us from visiting him one week later. That, however, is a different, but happy story.
But this year everything was back to normal: Tamayose Sensei – accompanied by his lovely wife Masako-san – came to Nordhausen once again, to that small town lying at the feet of the Harz mountains. This year the Karate club of Nordhausen would host a tenth-degree black belt from Okinawa for the very first time: In december 2015 Tamayose Sensei was awarded 10th Dan, and thus he is one of only a handful who have ever got that rank in Kobudô.
Despite spending only three days in Siberia/ Russian Federation, Frank Pelny Sensei from Germany amazed more than 70 participants with a highly intense training. From 10th to 12th of October 2014 participants from nine Russian Dôjô (2x Tomsk, Biysk, Anzhero-Sudzhensk, Jashkino, Seversk, Pervomayskoe, Kislovka and Chelyabinsk) met. On the 22nd of May in 1999 Tamayose Hidemi Sensei founded the organisation “Ryûkyû Kobudô Tesshinkan Kyô Kai”. On occasion of this event he had previously asked the team around Frank Pelny to host the official festivities of our organisation in Nordhausen (GER). The people from Nordhausen have put a lot of effort in staging such an event – and succeeded. For this reason nearly 50 enthusiasts from Belarus, Russia, the Czech Republic, Japan and Germany have met in Nordhausen from 24th to 27th of July in order to train Ryûkyû Kobudô and Shôrin-Ryû Karate together under the watchful eyes of Tamayose Sensei (9th Dan). Sensei was supported by his son, Tamayose Tetsushi Sensei, Frank Pelny, Hagen Walter and other Senpai.

Both masters have trained together for several hours everyday in order to improve their skills in Ryûkyû Kobudô Tesshinkan.
The temperature outside was at Okinawan-like 36°C – European participants hailing from Sweden to Spain – concentrated and companionable training – parties in the evening: that was our Tesshinkan Europe-Gasshuku in 2013.
From 26th of March to 4th of April a small group from Germany and Italy travelled to Okinawa to stay with Tamayose Sensei. Although the weather was not at its best – the atmosphere was. The participants really enjoyed the oppurtunity to be directly taught by Tamayose Sensei and to explore Okinawa once more.
From February 13th until 16th the International League of Traditional Martial Arts, headed by Sensei Sergey Mirutenko, organised a special event in Minsk, Belarus – for the third time.
